Josie On Film
aka -The βRicoh Queenβ of film photography
Josie Goris is a 35mm Film Specialist and current Australian Pentax 17 Ambassador based near the Lower Blue Mountains, Australia. She captures the raw beauty and power of cars (and their owners!) transforming their stories into timeless masterpieces. She is known for her work with vintage Ricoh and Pentax film cameras, creating one of a kind images that evoke nostalgia, along with her sparkling reputation of being a 'master' at her craft.
An active member of the Sydney car community, Josie's 35mm Film Photography captures the scene's energy and passion. With 9 years of experience and over 500 rolls of film hand-developed, her work showcases the unique qualities of this medium. Her talent has also led to collaborations with brands like For The Girls, Fortune, AMMO NYC, Stash, Unmarked, C.R. Kennedy Imaging, Zhiyun, and Pentax.
As a Disabled βTeaching Artistβ, Josie is passionate about the technical side of film, repairing cameras, developing, scanning, editing, and film restoration. She openly shares her knowledge through both free and financially accessible community resources such as blogs/newsletters, donation based content days, highlighting her expertise and showcasing her work at networking events, and offers private mentorship.
Overcoming a secondary spinal injury in 2020, and escaping Domestic Violence in early 2025, Josie found immense healing through her creativity practice and is now creating 35mm Film Workshops designed for accessibility, as well as for mental health and wellbeing. She aims to host these events and spaces to assist marginalized folks, educate others on the importance of true inclusivity in the arts, and create genuinely safe spaces for the community - all while having fun experimenting with film!
Outside of her 35mm Film practice, Josie is a published written and spoken word poet with over 7 years of experience as a performer. Recently awarded a High Commendation by Varuna, and a current West Words Academy 2025 recipient, she has participated in multiple scholarships and workshops - such as βKinkeepingβ and βThroughlineβ with Desire Dallagiacomo, Button Poetry, and Varuna βThe Writer's Spaceβ - between 2020-2024, where her hybrid form of poetry, memoir, and documentary photography create a vulnerable and new form of art showcasing her lived experiences as a disabled artist.
She is currently working on a hybrid poetry novel, alongside personal and professional film projects, and continues to be heavily involved in the local writing scene, sharing resources along with her 35mm Film journey with her community through her Substack. She plans to launch her YouTube to compliment it soon!
